Alligator hunting in North Carolina is by permit only and each permit holder is allowed only one alligator kill per season. American alligators occur naturally in North Carolina, inhabiting bay lakes, rivers, creeks, marshes, swamps and ponds , with local populations distributed in patches along the entire coast.
Alligators become less common in coastal NC as you move from south to north. Alligators are primarily freshwater animals and they do not live in the ocean. But, every so often, it is possible that an alligator might make its way to the ocean. However, the Outer Banks is still home to the American Alligator. Alligators inhabit areas north of the refuge and in some of our waterways.

There is plenty to do to keep the whole family happy and coming back for years. And, the three towns of Topsail Island are home to wonderfully comfortable and affordable vacation rentals.
Shackleford Banks is home to turquoise water that rivals the Caribbean. There is a prehistoric layer that is constantly eroding off our coast from wave action and that brings teeth onto our local sands. This is a family beach with very little to do other then sit on the beach. We went there as our friends had rented a beach house so we rented a condo at The Surf.
Despite the fact the condo was nice my husband absolutely hated Topsail Beach. He found it really boring. Topsail Island and Surf City area is a great family destination-one that families have made their yearly summer vacation spot for generations. American alligators can be found in the coastal wetlands of the U. Southeast, as far north as North Carolina and as far west as eastern Texas. Their range extends down to southern Florida and includes the Everglades.
